The annual Juried Student Art Show at Hope College will run from Monday, Nov. 26, to Friday, Dec. 7, in the De Pree Art Center and Gallery.

There will be a jurorɫəs talk in advance of the exhibition, on Monday, Nov. 19, at 5 p.m. in Cook Auditorium of the De Pree Art Center and Gallery. There will be a reception in the gallery on Friday, Nov. 30, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited to the exhibition, jurorɫəs talk and reception. Admission is free.

Open to all students at Hope, the competitive exhibition is an annual fixture in the De Pree gallery.  Each year, the Department of Art and Art History invites a recognized artist or curator to judge the student work.

This yearɫəs juror, Patrick Earl Hammie, is currently an associate professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Hammie received his B.A. from Coker College and M.F.A. from the University of Connecticut. He is a visual artist working with themes related to cultural identity, social equity, narrative and the body in visual culture. Hammieɫəs portrait and allegory paintings draw from art history and media to deliver fresh ideals that explore the ways people of color and women are valued today. He has received the Puffin Foundation Award, Arnold O. Beckman Research Award from the University of Illinois, and the Alliance of Artists Communities Fellowship Award with the Joyce Foundation. He was an artist-in-residence at the John Michael Kohler Art Center and named an ɫɜArtist to Watchɫɝ by the International Review of African American Art.

The De Pree Art Center and Gallery is located at 275 Columbia Ave., between 10th and 13th streets.  The gallery is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
