1866 Although officially chartered in 1866, Hope College began its journey in October 1851 with the creation of the Holland colonyɫəs Pioneer School. The first freshman class of 10 students matriculated in 1862, and the first commencement took place on July 17, 1866.

Costs & Financial Aid

Our 2024ɫɓ25 costs for tuition, room and board total $54,920, and 95% of Hope students receive financial aid. We offer need-based assistance, academic scholarships ranging from $7,500ɫɓ$24,000 per year, and Distinguished Artist Awards for music, art, dance, theatre and creative writing.
