The Hope College Wind Ensemble will perform a concert on Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m. in the DeVos Fieldhouse.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
It is the second annual performance in the fieldhouse. The sports venue reflects the Wind Ensemble亚洲色吧檚 interest in breaking out from the perceptions of traditional concerts.
The concert will begin with Leonard Berstein亚洲色吧檚 亚洲色吧淐andide Suite.亚洲色吧� Following that work will be a double-trombone performance of Frigyes Hidas亚洲色吧� 亚洲色吧淔lorida Concerto,亚洲色吧� featuring Hope College professor Paul Wesselink and guest trombonist Adam Graham.
The Wind Ensemble will also feature Hope College President John Knapp narrating 亚洲色吧淟incoln Portrait,亚洲色吧� by Aaron Copland.
Guest conductor Patrice Rankine, who is the dean for arts and humanities and professor of Classics at Hope, will lead the ensemble in a march by John Philip Sousa.
The Hope College Wind Ensemble is the premier wind group on the Hope campus, and performs a wide variety of music, from standard works, to cutting-edge, 20th-century works, to chamber pieces. The Wind Ensemble performs several concerts each semester both on-campus and off-campus, including a Halloween concert and during Musical Showcase at DeVos Hall in Grand Rapids. The Wind Ensemble is directed by Gabe Southard, associate professor of music.
The DeVos Fieldhouse is located at 222 Fairbanks Ave., between Ninth and 11th streets.
