The 35th annual Hope College Musical Showcase will be presented on Friday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts. The concert will feature 200 Hope College students performing in the Department of Music亚洲色吧檚 major instrumental and vocal ensembles and soloists.
Hope College students take the stage for this fast-paced, musical spectacular, during which audience members hear everything from opera to jazz. The hardest part for those attending is containing their enthusiasm, at least at first. In the tradition of the quick-moving musical event, audience members are asked to hold their applause until intermission and the end of the performance.
Vocal performances include junior Maicee Bishop of Kalamazoo singing 亚洲色吧淗yacinth,亚洲色吧 by Margaret Bonds; senior Emlin Munch of Traverse City singing 亚洲色吧淣acht und Tr盲ume,亚洲色吧 by Franz Schubert; and senior Jane Ellen Altevogt of Ann Arbor singing 亚洲色吧淏eside the Sea,亚洲色吧 by Florence Price. All singers will be accompanied by collaborative pianists Christina Krause and Jane Bosko.
Piano soloists include senior Anna Triezenberg of Midlothian, Illinois, performing Paul Ben-Haim亚洲色吧檚 亚洲色吧淐apriccio Agitato亚洲色吧; freshman Kellen Woolhiser of Bay City performing 亚洲色吧淎 Gershwin Melody,亚洲色吧 by George Gershwin; and freshman Carter Schmelz of Clarence, New York, performing 亚洲色吧淧r茅lude, Op. 43, No. 1,亚洲色吧 by Reinhold Gli猫re.
Organ soloists include junior Caitlyn Brown of Kalamazoo playing 亚洲色吧淔anfare in D,亚洲色吧 by Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens; and senior Sam Grosskreuz of Newburg, Wisconsin, playing 亚洲色吧淭occata,亚洲色吧 from 亚洲色吧淪uite Gothique, Op. 25,亚洲色吧 by L茅on Bo毛llmann.
The featured large vocal ensembles include the Chapel Choir, conducted by Peter Kadeli, singing 亚洲色吧淲ade in the Water,亚洲色吧 by Moses Hogan, and 亚洲色吧淒own to the River to Pray,亚洲色吧 arranged by David L. Mennicke; and SPERA, conducted by Pamela Pierson, singing 亚洲色吧淗ark, I Hear the Harps Eternal,亚洲色吧 arranged by Mark Hayes, and 亚洲色吧淲here the Light Begins,亚洲色吧 by Susan LaBarr. SPERA will be accompanied by collaborative pianists Allison Keep and Anna Triezenberg.
The featured instrumental ensembles include the Concert Band, conducted by Anand Sukumaren, playing 亚洲色吧淎brams Pursuit,亚洲色吧 by David Holsinger; the Orchestra, conducted by Samuel Pang, performing 亚洲色吧淚ntermezzo亚洲色吧 from 亚洲色吧淐avalleria Rusticana,亚洲色吧 by Pietro Mascagni; and the Jazz Arts Collective, conducted by Robert Shipley, playing 亚洲色吧淟ady Bird,亚洲色吧 by Tadd Dameron (arranged by Mark Taylor), and 亚洲色吧淪traight Ahead,亚洲色吧 by Count Basie, arranged by Sammy Nestico.
Tickets are $10 for regular admission and $7 for Hope College faculty and staff members. Admission is free for Hope students. Tickets are available at the Events and Conferences Office located downtown in the Anderson-Werkman Financial Center (100 E. 8th Street).
