The Hope College Great Performance Series will feature the internationally diverse Galvin Cello Quartet on Thursday, Feb. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts. The award-winning quartet is comprised of members from China, Brazil, South Korea and the United States.

The young quartet burst onto the scene with a silver medal at the 2021 Fischoff Competition, followed by winning the 2022 Victor Elmaleh Competition.

Third Coast Review has said that the ensemble demonstrates ɫɜthe musical possibilities such an unusual ensemble line-up can offerɫɦ  very talented musicians.ɫɝ

The concert program, titled ɫɜCoalescence,ɫɝ was created to reflect the quartetɫəs different cultural backgrounds. It highlights Gabriela Lena Frankɫəs ɫɜLeyendas: An Andean Walkabout,ɫɝ and includes works by Antonio Vivaldi, George Gershwin, Richard Wagner, Gioachino Rossini and David Popper.

ɫɜItɫəs always exciting to present younger ensembles that are clearly poised for sustained success,ɫɝ said Derek Emerson, who has curated the Great Performance Series for more than 20 years. ɫɜWeɫəve done this before and it is wonderful to welcome the ensembles back later in their careers. I have no doubt this will be one of those groups.ɫɝ

Cellists Sihao He, Sydney Lee, Haddon Kay and Luiz Fernando Venturelli met as students at Northwestern Universityɫəs Bienen School of Music, where they became friends and collaborators.
