The De Pree Art Center and Gallery at Hope College will feature the exhibition ɫɜKatie Wynne: Work Day,ɫɝ by Katie Wynne and co-curated by Lisa Walcott, from Friday, Feb. 19, through Thursday, March 17. 

Wynne will deliver an artistɫəs talk on Friday, Feb. 19, at 4 p.m. in Cook Auditorium in the De Pree Art Center and Gallery, with a reception following from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited to the exhibition, artistɫəs talk and reception.  Admission is free.

Wynne works through mixed media sculpture and installation, where familiar objects are displaced and redefined in an escape attempt from the ordinary.  Her work has been shown internationally, including exhibitions in Providence, Rhode Island; Boston, Massachusetts; Detroit; Miami, Florida; Houston, Texas; and Berlin, Germany.  She currently lives and works in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

She was born in Providence. In 2011 she received her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.  She has also participated in residencies at Ox-Bow and the Vermont Studio Center on a Fellowship supported by the Joan Mitchell Foundation.

Walcott is an installation artist and kinetic sculptor based in Holland.  She received her MFA in sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2010, and has since created and exhibited her work nationally.

The artistɫəs talk and reception are taking place in conjunction with the collegeɫəs spring Arts and Humanities Symposium, which will be exploring ɫɜMusic, Arts and Placemakingɫɝ on Friday, Feb. 19, continuing discussion started during the biennial eventɫəs fall installment.  The symposium will feature three talks and responses beginning every hour starting at 1 p.m. in Cook Auditorium: ɫɜBuilding Art Engagement at Grand Valley State University,ɫɝ at 1 p.m.; ɫɜDomestic Tension: When Home Meets the Institution,ɫɝ at 2 p.m.; and ɫɜCosmogonic Tattoos: Epistemic Limits and the Will to Adorn,ɫɝ at 3 p.m.  The public is invited to the presentations, and admission is free.

The gallery of the De Pree Art Center and Gallery is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
